Justice Reform Guides

Justice reform encompasses a variety of activities from seminars on specific topics to organizing community awareness campaigns; from lobbying to creating new programmes. These guides are designed to provide practical advice for undertaking various justice reform strategies.

Guide for Organizing a Justice Seminar
Seminars on justice related issues provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about critical reform topics (prison crowding, restorative justice, etc.), begin advocating for change, and build partnerships for a reform effort. However, regardless of the topic or size, for a seminar to be successful it needs to be well organised around specific goals. The six stages outlined in this booklet will help you organise a successful justice seminar.

What is restorative justice?

Restorative justice is a theory of justice that emphasizes repairing the harm caused or revealed by criminal behaviour. It is best accomplished through cooperative processes that include all stakeholders.

Practices and programs reflecting restorative purposes will respond to crime by: (a) identifying and taking steps to repair harm, (b) involving all  stakeholders, and (c) transforming the traditional relationship between communities and their governments in responding to crime. more
