Justice Reform in Asia

PF national organisations in Asia are active in justice reform through advocating restorative justice and the implementation of in-prison programmes.

Advocating for Reform
PF national organisations in Asia have a vision for the implementing restorative justice in response to criminal justice issues in their countries. Their first step in communicating this vision is through the organisation of symposiums and other events to educate key stakeholders in the concepts and possibilities of restorative justice.

Communities of Restoration
Some PF national organisations in Asia have implemented faith-based prison programmes offering prisoners an opportunity for a holistic rehabilitation programme that includes in-prison Christian programming and other rehabilitation services and post-release mentoring.

What is restorative justice?

Restorative justice is a theory of justice that emphasizes repairing the harm caused or revealed by criminal behaviour. It is best accomplished through cooperative processes that include all stakeholders.

Practices and programs reflecting restorative purposes will respond to crime by: (a) identifying and taking steps to repair harm, (b) involving all  stakeholders, and (c) transforming the traditional relationship between communities and their governments in responding to crime. more
