Prisoners Donate to Fund for Victims

Furthering the reconciliation work that is initiated by the Sycamore Tree Project® (STP), Prison Fellowship Western Australia has set up a Victim Relief Fund that encourages prisoners to donate to crime victims.

PF also collects matching donations from members of the community. The first beneficiary of this Victim Relief Fund is Ann, who lost her two young children in a brutal homicide and has been a tireless advocate for victims’ rights ever since. PF Australia’s STP facilitator Michael Cockram presented Ann with a $1,000 (AUD) check, on behalf of the prisoners of Acacia prison who made donations and contributors from the Perth community, to support her research and her work in advancing the cause of crime victims everywhere.

Communities of Restoration

What is restorative justice?

Restorative justice is a theory of justice that emphasizes repairing the harm caused or revealed by criminal behaviour. It is best accomplished through cooperative processes that include all stakeholders.

Practices and programs reflecting restorative purposes will respond to crime by: (a) identifying and taking steps to repair harm, (b) involving all  stakeholders, and (c) transforming the traditional relationship between communities and their governments in responding to crime. more
