Explaining Restorative Justice in Colombia
Last modified 2008-08-02 02:53
Dan Van Ness, PFI’s Executive Director of the Centre for Justice and Reconciliation, recently travelled to Colombia to help PF Colombia in its ongoing efforts to promote restorative justice among criminal justice professionals.
Dan spoke about the United Nations Basic Principles of Restorative
Justice at a seminar for prosecutors sponsored by the Restorative
Justice Resource
group, an organisation that PF helped to create. “What impressed me is
that there is a commitment to have a long range plan to get
prosecutors, judges, and prison officials to buy into restorative
justice,” Dan said.
On his way to the seminar, Dan was interviewed by reporters for the
Le Mondo newspaper, the second largest paper in the city of Medellin,
which ran
a full page article about the seminar the following day.
